PWS Shuttle
Pin Welding System

mod. Shuttle with Dual
SmartWeld Stations
Precise Lay-up, Alignment and
Welding of Multilayers
The PWS Pin Welding System is designed to align and bond layers together prior to lamination. The aligned package may be
inner layers, laminated sub-assemblies or a combination of both. Controlled heating and pressure are used to activate the prepreg
at four locations, which when cooled, form a cross-linked bond site that adheres the various layers together. Three different
processes take place in one unit; lay-up, layer to layer alignment and welding. This process eliminates the added tolerances
associated with pin lamination or rivet deformation.

The system may be used to weld a multilayer, as in conventional lamination or to align and weld two or more multilayer
subassemblies. The SmartWeld Technology allows the user to have complete and independent control of the heating and cooling
times as well as bonding pressure.

Utilizing this system eliminates the added cost of rivets, rivet tooling, lamination pins, tooled lamination and separator plates.

The  PWS will process all panel sizes from  10” x 12” to 24” x 28” (255x305mm to 610x711mm)
The system can also be configured to customer specific pin-up location tooling.

Unlike other machines, the PWS
does not require any expensive template.
SmartWeld Technology
Once aligned, the material is welded together utilizing the patented
welding system developed by DIS Inc. The system consists of an
upper and lower weld head per station.  The complete weld cycle is
controlled similar to a lamination press cycle. The different
parameters are set, such as maximum temperature, temperature
ramp rate, hold (soak) time, cooling time and pressure. Each weld
station is independently controlled for maximum flexibility.
